Multichannel Mania

Lab Exercise 5: Multichannel Mania

As a group, we researched availability of six TV programs in the city of Chicago, area code 60602. I looked for program listings specifically for Dish TV Network. Dish Network is the fastest growing provider of the two major satellite providers in the U.S., the other being Direct TV. The six shows we looked for were "Family Guy," "The Office," "Colbert Report," "Glee," "Casa Serrado," and "Law and Order." The following TV listings were taken from the Dish Network website.

"Family Guy" is shown on TBS four times a day. "The Office" is shown on NBC two times a day. "The Colbert Report" is shown on Comedy Central five times a day. "Glee" is shown on Fox two times a day. "Law and Order" is shown on TNT six times a day. It was interesting to see how often "Law and Order" is shown on tv, and that is just on TNT. Many of these shows are shown on two or three different channels, but for the purpose of this assignment I just looked at the main networks they are shown on, and the main channel host. Many of these shows are shown after 5:00 or in the evening, which is a convenient time for those people who work or go to school and get home late. I was not able to find the showings of "Casa Serrado."

Dish TV was offering a service special for $24.99 a month, including all the channels that show the six shows used for the lab exercise and over 120 other channels. It was the cheapest package and a special 12 month offer.
